At the same time, the company has notified state management agencies and is coordinating a joint investigation. This investigation, which will involve government and local community representatives, will determine the cause and impact of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The May 19 oil spill marked the second incident this month on the Okordia-Rumuekpe pipeline and the third in Renaissance&#8217;s operations.<\/p>\n<p>On May 16, the company that owns the former onshore assets of Shell Nigeria had to halt production on a pipeline to the Trans Niger pipeline, a key route for transporting crude from onshore fields to the Bonny export port, following an operational incident.<\/p>\n<p>As the largest crude oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria also faces a serious oil spill problem.
